The Elephant Village
The Elephant Village
Location: 15km southeast of Luang Prabang

Who and What: The Elephant Village was established in 2003 to protect the Asian elephants in Laos. Experienced mahouts and vets help the elephants adapt to their new environment, with sick or older elephants receiving special attention. Our project provides communities and businesses with an example of sustainable tourism.

The Experience: Take a scenic ride on an elephant and help to create a future for more of these animals. Stop by at the Elephant Training Centre to see how younger elephants are trained in the skills needed for tours. Learn how to care for elephants with some basic "mahout training" while attending one of the educational tours into the project area. Also visit the beautiful Tad Sae waterfall.
From Hanuman
Elephant Village was the first elephant camp to begin working with these gentle creatures and offers an immersion experience for those who want to learn more about their behaviour. Learn the language of the mahout to control these animals as you move through the beautiful Lao countryside. Help to give the elephants a bath in the Nam Khan River or take a dip yourself in Tad Sae Waterfall.
